For the fourth consecutive year WGCU Public Media, Southwest Florida’s NPR/PBS station hosted “Wine and War,” a wine tasting and lecture program featuring the wartime wines saved during World War II. The Naples Trust Company sponsored the event for a limited number of 50 WGCU donor circle guests to experience this delightful mix of history with France’s major wine making industry focusing on the Burgundy Region.
It made for a fascinating afternoon at Naples’ well-established French restaurant, Bleu Provence, owned by Jacques Cariot, who joined West McCann, president of The Naples Trust Company in welcoming guests. Jacques’s son, Clement is a certified master sommelier who walked guests through the experience as they paired each wine with a variety of small bites.
All the while, Naples resident and historical guide, Mimi Gregory orated interesting war stories surrounding the wines of Burgundy. Ms. Gregory has twice been decorated by the French government and was awarded the title of “Commandeur de l’Ordre National du Merite” and is President of the Alliance Francaise de Bonita Springs.
